MANILA – Around 10 barangays and 1,054 families have been affected by floods caused by bad weather in Banaue, Ifugao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

"Humupa na po ang flooding situation sa Banaue, although sampung barangay po ang naapektuhan at 1,054 families po yan, ang naabutan nitong flooding situation (The flooding in Banaue has already subsided although 10 barangays were affected along with 1,054 families)," NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Cashean Timbal said in a Laging Handa briefing.

Timbal added that the remaining families in an evacuation center for flood victims have reportedly returned to their homes on Monday.

"Meron din po tayong nabalitaan na limang pamilya na tumuloy sa kanilang mga kamag-anakan rather than stay in the evacuation center. Tinutukoy po ngayon kung nagsiuwian na sila sa kanilang mga tahanan (We also have received reports about five families who have opted to shelter with their relatives than go to the evacuation center. We are now determining whether these families have gone or return home)," he added.

Timbal said no fatalities were reported but six persons were injured in the floods.

The number of damaged houses was at 1,048 while the cost of damage to agriculture was estimated at PHP16.6 million.

The amount of aid extended to affected families has reached PHP2.4 million in the form of family food packs and other items distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (PNA)
