MANILA – The Manila City government distributed aid on Monday to 66 families or 222 individuals who were victims of two separate fires in the Tondo District.

For the next few days, the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) will provide their meals, Director Re Fugoso said in an interview.

Fugoso said the victims have modular tents at the village halls where they temporarily evacuated.

“Hopefully, by next week maayos na ang financial assistance na ibibigay sa kanila.  Kung anu po yung inumpisahan ni (former) Mayor [Francisco] Isko Moreno Domagoso], ‘yun din ang gagawin ni Mayor Honey [Lacuna-Pangan] (the financial assistance would be ready.  Whatever was started by former Mayor Isko will be continued by Mayor Honey),” he said.

A report by the Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire at the corner of Almeda and Tayuman Streets in Barangay 225 on Monday at about 10:15 p.m. affected 27 families or 89 individuals.

It reached the second alarm and was declared fire out shortly before 11 p.m.

Another 39 families or 133 individuals also lost their homes when fire broke out at a two-story residential building on Gatmaitan corner Juan Luna Streets around 3 a.m. Tuesday. (PNA)
