BUTUAN CITY – Some 231,292 board feet of illegal lumber worth PHP7.8 million were seized during 230 operations in the region from January to June this year, the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) said Tuesday.

In a statement, Col. James Goforth, the PRO-13 chief of operations, said 111 illegal logging suspects were also arrested during the period.

The PRO-13 said it also launched 179 anti-illegal drug operations during the period, arresting 184 suspects and seizure of some PHP5.8 million worth of illegal drugs.

During the past six months, 199 anti-illegal gambling operations were also held in the different police stations in the region.

A total of PHP218,984 money bets were confiscated and 441 suspects involved in illegal gambling were nabbed.

Goforth said 736 small illegal firearms and light weapons were confiscated from 50 suspects for the first half of the year.

Law enforcement operations also resulted in the apprehension of 1,560 wanted persons, 343 of whom were considered most wanted at the regional, provincial, city, and municipal levels.

In its anti-insurgency drive, PRO-13 said at least 198 New People’s Army rebels surrendered to the police while 64 others were arrested, yielding a total of 86 firearms. (PNA)
