BUTUAN CITY – Agusan del Sur Second District Representative Eddiebong Plaza has filed eight House Bills (HBs) that seek to create  new barangays in the town of Loreto.

In a statement Wednesday, Plaza's office said HBs 770, 771, 772, and 773 contained the provisions for the proposed creation of Barangays Aces, Bugdangan, Kapda, and Mabuhay respectively in the municipality of Loreto.

Plaza also filed HBs 774, 775, 776, and 778 for the creation of Barangays Manawe, Ferdinand, Ilang-Ilang, and Maitom in the same town.

The eight measures were among the 12 priority HBs the solon filed during the opening of the 19th Congress on July 1, he said.

Plaza said the creation will develop the new barangays into more effective and efficient partners in the attainment of the national government’s objectives.

He added that the new barangays will also be entitled to a just share of the national taxes.

“Aside from the 12 HBs, Rep. Plaza also filed 10 other measures that will strengthen the education, livelihood, and tourism in Agusan del Sur,” the lawmaker said.

Plaza also filed HB 767 for the creation of Agusan del Sur Polytechnic Institute for Technical Education and HB 757 for the establishment of Agusan del Sur Sports Academy.

The lawmaker also endorsed a measure through HB 769 that will establish an ecotourism site at the Agusan Marsh, a protected area covering around 14,000 hectares of wetlands in Agusan del Sur.

Plaza said the unique biodiversity and beauty of Agusan Marsh have a lot of potential for ecotourism activities such as bird watching, river cruising, photography, and lake tour. (PNA)
