CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Department of Science and Technology-Central Luzon (DOST-3) has provided teaching aids to 16 indigenous people (IP) schools in Zambales.

The interactive multimedia audio-visual teaching aids were given to the IP schools located in Botolan, Subic, San Narciso, and Olongapo City.

Each school received a set of teaching aids which also included a 40-inch, high-definition, light-emitting diode (HD LED) television.

DOST-3 Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat said on Friday the interactive multimedia audio-visual teaching aid is especially suited in areas where access to the internet is either low or none.

“Now is the opportunity to push the students for the region, from the provinces, from the barangays and sitios, to be the frontrunners in running this country. Kayo po ang katulong namin. Kayo po ang patunay na ang teknolohiya ay gagana. Kung wala po kayo na magdadala nito sa mga estudyante, useless ang lahat ng ito (You are our partners. You are the proof that technology can work. If you are not there to bring this technology to the students, this is useless. You are the ones who can help us, our partners, so what we give you is not benefit but responsibility), Sicat told the teachers during the distribution of the teaching aids at the Botolan Municipal Hall last Wednesday.

Celso Q. Alcantara, school head of the Villar Integrated School in Botolan, thanked the DOST for the assistance, which, he said is a big help for both teachers and learners.

Ito pong ganitong uri ng benepisyo at responsbilidad na binibigay niyo sa DepEd (Department of Education) ay malaking tulong po sa amin. Kaya tanggapin po ninyo ang aming taos-pusong pasasalamat (This kind of benefit and responsibility being given to DepEd is a big help to us. Thus, please accept our heartfelt thanks),” Alcantara said.

So far, a total of 34 public schools in Zambales have received the teaching aids.

This project is a component of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program of the DOST which had been funded by Sen. Joel Villanueva since 2018. (PNA)
