MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday warned the public against persons using the name of Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma in soliciting money supposedly in exchange for favorable results on concerns with the agency.
“The labor department strongly condemns such nefarious acts that tend to put to bad light the DOLE and destroy the good name of the Labor Secretary,” DOLE Information and Publication Service (IPS) director Rolly Francia said in an advisory.
This came after they received information that some employers and establishments received calls from individuals using the labor chief's name asking and demanding money.
At the same time, he asked the people, especially those who will receive such calls to report it to them.
“DOLE strongly urges the public to report such illegal and illicit activities to the nearest DOLE Regional offices or call DOLE Hotline 1349,” the IPS director added.
Laguesma assumed as DOLE chief last July 1, replacing Silvestre Bello III who was appointed as chairperson of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, the Philippines' representative office to Taiwan. (PNA)
