BUTUAN CITY – Two Indigenous People Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) in Surigao del Sur were installed during a two-day activity that included a ritual anchored on the tradition of indigenous communities in the area.

In a statement Friday, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples in Bislig City (NCIP-Bislig) said Hawudon Reynald Gay-od was installed as the IPMR of Lingig town, and Hawudon Rizalito Amaduan as the IPMR of Barangay Bogac, also of the same town.

“The activity for the installation of the new IPMRs was performed on July 12 to 13 that includes a ritual called ‘Kahimunan’ or gathering,” the NCIP-Bislig said.

The ritual was a way of thanksgiving and a venue to discuss future endeavors for significant improvements in the IP communities of the town, it added.

“The two-day ritual commenced at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday that was led by Baylan Datu Juan Tanog from Barangay Hinapoyan, Carmen, Surigao del Sur,” the agency added.

After the ceremony, IPMRs Gay-od and Amaduan took their oath of office on Thursday before Lingig Mayor Elmer Evangelio.

In attendance at the activity were top officials from the NCIP in the Caraga Region, different municipal IPMRs in Surigao del Sur, as well as tribal chieftains. (PNA)
