LEGAZPI CITY – Farmers in Cawayan, Masbate are the latest recipient of a brand-new PHP3-million corn harvester from the Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5)
In an interview on Friday, DA-5 information officer Lovella Guarin said members of the Tuburan United Corn Farmers Association received Thursday the mechanical harvester.
Guarin said the corn harvester will certainly boost their output while reducing the production cost of input.
"The association will be responsible for the maintenance of the harvester to sustain its efficiency. The use of mechanical harvester(s) makes their work faster and easier," she said.
Guarin said there will be regular reporting of its usage and production.
The report will be submitted to the Municipal Agriculture Office, she said.
Guarin said the association has 200 hectares of cornland, making it eligible for the mechanical harvester.
To avail of agricultural machinery from the DA, a registered association with at least 100 hectares of farmland needs to submit its letter of intent, she added.
The Tuburan United Corn Farmers Association has 300 members. (PNA)
