CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) nabbed Sunday midnight a person suspected to have raped a woman and killed her lover in Coastal Road, Barangay Lapasan here.

Police identified the suspects as Erwin Adame, 35, of Tabaco, Barangay Puntod, who was detained at the  COCPO Police Station 3 in Agora, Barangay Lapasan.

A police report said the rape and the killing of the woman's boyfriend occurred at around 10 p.m. Sunday.

In a phone interview, Lt. Macario Linog Jr., the Agora police station deputy commander, identified the slain victim as Cris Semaña, 20, a delivery rider, of Barangay Lapasan.

Linog said Semaña and his girlfriend were taking some time to talk at the Coastal Road when the suspect approached and pointed a knife at them.

Linog said the two victims were brought separately to a dark section of the road.

He said Semaña sustained 10 stab wounds on the body and the girlfriend said she was raped.

Police are still waiting for the result of the medico-legal confirmation.

In an interview with reporters, Adame denied the charges against him.

“We had witnesses who can prove that we were just in the area (Coastal Road) drinking,” he said.

Police said Adame had previous complaints related to theft.

Mourning Semañas death

Meanwhile, many of Semaña's friends have expressed their sympathy and condolences through the victim's Facebook account and asked for justice.

Mechie, one of Semaña's close friends, said she was shocked and “very sad because he (Semaña) is a good person, and we are friends since high school.”

The victim's older brother hoped that the victim’s girlfriend would pull through the traumatic experience to help the investigation.

“What we need right now is for her (the victim’s minor girlfriend) to be okay, and we hope that her trauma will be gone. She is the only one who can provide further details,” the brother said in vernacular.

Police urged the public to refrain from strolling on Coastal Road, especially during the nighttime, as the area is not well-lighted. (PNA)
