DAVAO CITY – The regional offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on market opportunities for qualified community-based Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Associations.

In a statement Tuesday, DSWD-11 (Davao region) said the effort is in line with BJMP’s commitment to the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program.

The EPAHP aims to eradicate hunger, ensuring food and nutrition security in communities through synergy and convergence of services from different government agencies.

DSWD-11 Director Vanessa Goc-ong said the initiative forms part of the monitoring and capacity-building efforts of the SLP to qualified associations in the region.

“The MOU initiative was a result of the inspiring story of the POBAHORA SLP Association of Lupon, Davao Oriental,” Goc-ong said, pointing out that the group became successful after establishing its partnership with the BJMP in 2020.

“They now act as the supplier of vegetables, meat, and eggs to the BJMP Lupon District Jail,” she added.

The SLP is a community-based capacity-building program that targets to improve the socio-economic condition of poor Filipinos by providing them sustainable livelihood options through two tracks: micro-enterprise development and employment facilitation. (PNA)
