ZAMBOANGA CITY – The number of active cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) here has increased to 78 as of Friday, the City Health Office (CHO) reported.

In a statement, the CHO said the number rose by 14 cases from 64 on Monday.

The office did not elaborate on the factors behind the spike, except to reiterate the advice to remain vigilant and strictly comply with the minimum health standards.

Data released Friday by the CHO showed that the city tallied 29,411 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, with 28,076 recoveries, 1,257 deaths, and 78 active cases.

The office has recorded 240 cases of reinfection since the start of the pandemic.

Its record indicated that the majority of the active cases are from the community with 75, two persons deprived of liberty, and one authorized person outside residence.

Data also showed that 48.7 percent of the active cases are asymptomatic, 32.1 percent have mild symptoms, 11.5 percent have moderate symptoms, and 7.7 percent have severe symptoms.

The 78 active cases are distributed in 29 of this city’s 98 barangays.

After the increase, the city government said it has ramped up the administration of primary doses of vaccines and booster shots to provide residents better protection against Covid-19.

Health centers, including barangay halls, on Friday accepted walk-in vaccinees for primary doses and first and second booster shots.

Health personnel have also conducted house-to-house vaccination for the administration of first and second booster doses in the different barangays of the city. (PNA)
