BACOLOD CITY – Combined police anti-drug operatives have seized PHP7.14 million worth of suspected shabu from two individuals during a buy-bust in Silay City in Negros Occidental on Friday night.

The suspects were identified as Razel Lyam Gamazan, 37, and Lennie Nava, 40, both residents of Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.

Tagged as high-value individuals, they sold two sachets of the prohibited substance priced at PHP30,000 to an undercover policeman during the operation around 11:40 p.m. in Barangay Guinhalaran.

Lt. Col. Antonio Benitez Jr., officer-in-charge of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit in Western Visayas (RPDEU-6), said their team has been monitoring the movement of the suspects for the past six months.

“They are, as what we call in illegal drug transactions, couriers. They transport the illegal drugs to various areas in the region from Luzon,” Benitez said in a radio interview.

He added that the suspects travel by land from Batangas going to Panay before proceeding to Negros Occidental.

“They don’t stay in (Western Visayas), they just bring in the supply when there is a transaction,” the RPDEU-6 chief said.

Operatives recovered from the suspects’ possession nine big knot-tied and 29 heat-sealed plastic sachets of shabu, weighing 1.05 kilograms, with a standard value of PHP7.14 million.

Also confiscated were PHP5,700 cash and an iPhone.

The suspects, now detained at the Silay Component City Police Station, face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
