BALANGA CITY, Bataan – A total of 21,747 residents of this province have been vaccinated as part of a five-day mass inoculation with "incentives" activity that began on July 20 to curb the rising number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases here.

Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III said Monday that 5,499 individuals submitted themselves to vaccination on July 20, followed by 5,287 on July 21. A total of 6,509 got inoculated on July 22 and 4,452 on July 23. Inoculation was ongoing on the last day of the activity.

Garcia reiterated his request to 237 barangay chairpersons to exert extra effort in persuading those who have not yet been vaccinated with the first dose and the booster shot to get inoculated.

He said the project, dubbed “Bakunahan Bayanihan sa Barangay: Panalo ang Bakunado at Boosted na Bataeño” being held in vaccination sites in 11 towns and one city in the province and the Provincial Health Office in Balanga City, aims to encourage more residents to get vaccinated for added protection against Covid-19.

As incentives for those who submit themselves to vaccination, raffle draws were held daily in each inoculation center where winners got PHP1,000 in cash, courtesy of the local government units.

“Patuloy ko pong hinihikayat ang mga hindi pa nakatatanggap ng mga bakunang nabanggit na magpabakuna na ngayong araw, ika-25 ng Hulyo, at magkaroon ng pagkakataong manalo sa grand raffle draw mula sa pamahalaang panlalawigan na gaganapin bukas, ika-26 ng Hulyo. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan na nakiisa sa gawaing pagbabakuna kontra Covid-19 (I continue to encourage those unvaccinated to get inoculated today, July 25, and have a chance to win the grand raffle draw from the provincial government, which will be held tomorrow, July 26. I would like to thank all our provincemates who joined the vaccination against Covid-19),” the governor said in a social media post.

At stake in the general raffle draw of the provincial government are cash prizes of PHP2,000, PHP5,000, and PHP10,000 for 200, 100, and 60 winners, respectively.

A total of 20 laptops and 20 tablets will also be given away in the final draw.

Garcia said vaccination would go on even after the five-day mass vaccination activity.

As of July 23, the province recorded 272 active Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
