LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office-Bicol (PRO5) on Monday enforced maximum deployment of its personnel to ensure the safety of the public during the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the 17th leader of the Philippines, at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.

In an interview, Maj. Malu Calubuaquib, PRO-5 spokesperson, said the police in the region remains on full alert status.

"PRO5 also established checkpoints on strategic areas in the region, particularly on the entrance and exit points to oversee movements of vehicles that might likely be used to launch hostile and aggressive actions by criminal groups and gangs," she said.

Calubaquib said the move is to preserve the security of the occasion and protect the safety of the people from lawless elements who may take advantage of the event.

Other measures include police visibility and mobile and foot patrol to monitor the situation and address any eventualities and security concerns that may arise.

PRO5, however, discouraged militant groups from holding protest rallies, considering the presence of Covid-19.

"We (PRO5) assure maximum tolerance but will not hesitate to enforce the full might of the law to the violators," Calubaquib said.

She called for public cooperation to maintain peace during the SONA. (PNA)
