CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—The Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) said Monday it has received a passing rate in a survey aimed at gauging public perception of the police in terms of safety and security, respect, and trust.

The survey, done in late May this year, was in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology through the Center for Inclusive Development Studies.

It aims to assess the perception of the community toward the police in the region.

Survey results showed that 56.6 percent of estimated 12,740 respondents in the region strongly agreed that they feel safe and secure because the police is doing its job.

More than 50 percent also believed that their community experiences peace and security because the police is visible in the area.

Half of the participants believed that their lives and properties are safe and secure because they know the police will always be there when needed, while less than 1 percent of the participants believed otherwise.

The survey also revealed that the police is well respected in the community, with 53.6 percent of respondents saying they will call the police if a crime occurs near them.

In a statement, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., PRO-10 chief, said the survey result showing high satisfaction rating for PRO-10 was an indicator that “PRO-10 is in its right track in the implementation of its various programs and activities.”

He also credited the positive perception of the police to “the continuous effort we put in the campaign against all forms of criminality na talaga namang we have various accomplishments recorded.”

“Let’s keep the momentum and continue to do our job well with dedication and professionalism,” Acorda added. (PNA)
