ZAMBOANGA CITY – A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was arrested in a raid by policemen in a remote barangay in this southern port city, an official said Wednesday.

Col. Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command - Western Mindanao, said Rajak Amajad was arrested in Sitio Tambayot, Barangay Buenavista at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Verceles said the police team, armed with an arrest warrant, swooped down on Amajad’s hideout after receiving an intelligence report that the suspect was hiding in the area.

Amajad, 29, has a standing warrant of arrest for multiple cases of attempted murder with PHP120,000 bail issued by a local court on Aug. 10, 2018. He is listed as the 10th most wanted in this city.

Verceles said Amajad, of Barangay Muti here, was a follower of ASG sub-leader Jamih Nasalon, whose group is operating in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Amajad also has ties with a kidnap-for-ransom group headed by Marzan Ajijul based in this city, the police official added. (PNA)
