BUTUAN CITY – At least 32 fisherfolk in the Siargao Island town of Dapa in Surigao del Norte received some PHP206,280 worth of fishing gear and equipment from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in the Caraga Region (BFAR-13).

Released Wednesday at the municipal hall grounds in Dapa town include the PHP46,000 worth of fishing gears and paraphernalia intended for 22 fisherfolk beneficiaries.

A separate PHP160,280 worth of seaweed farm implements was also turned over by BFAR-13 for 10 fishermen engaged in seaweed production.

In a statement Wednesday, Dapa Mayor Elizabeth Matugas thanked the BFAR-13 for the support provided to the fishing industry of the town.

“The gear and equipment were already released to the qualified fisherfolk beneficiaries,” Matugas said.

The support, she added, will upgrade the fishing gear of the fisherfolk as well as those who rely on the production of seaweeds in the town. (PNA)
