LPA, monsoon to bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon

MANILA – A low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon (habagat) will cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of Luzon, the weather bureau said Thursday.

This will be experienced over the Bicol Region and the provinces of Aurora, Quezon, Bataan, and Zambales. Flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to at times heavy rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

PAGASA is monitoring one LPA which was last tracked 975 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

Weather forecaster Grace Castañeda said this LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression (TD) within 24 hours.

"We are monitoring this continuously as PAGASA is not discounting the possibility that this would develop into a TD," she said.

The LPA will move northward and could possibly have an interaction with a TD outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Castañeda said this TD has a slim chance of entering PAR.

"Both the LPA and the TD are enhancing the southwest monsoon," Castañeda added.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas continue to prevail over the entire archipelago. (PNA)
