LEGAZPI CITY – At least 20 Masbate police officers were relieved from their posts while an investigation is ongoing over the "untimely" death of Patrolman Jaypee De Guzman Ramores, a Police Regional Office-Bicol (PRO-5) official said.

PRO-5 spokesperson Maj. Malu Calubaquib said two police commissioned officers and 18 police non-commissioned officers are now under the custody of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), Camp Gen. Simeon Ola, regional headquarters.

"They shall be isolated inside the camp while the investigation is still ongoing. They shall be required to make their affidavits regarding the incident," she said in an interview on Friday.

Calubaquib said a Special Investigation Task Group “Ramores” was formed to look into the death on Tuesday of Ramores who was assigned to the 503rd Maneuver Company, Regional RMFB 5 in San Jacinto, Masbate.

"(The) Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division and Masbate Provincial Police Office will do a separate inquiry on the 503rd Maneuver Company to determine their criminal and administrative liability," she said.

The PRO5 is closely coordinating with the Ramores’ family, who consented to have the cadaver autopsied.

"The result of the examination is expected to shed light and help unravel the truth behind his demise," Calubaquib said.

She said based on the post-mortem report issued by Ticao District Hospital last July 28, the causes of death of Ramores were cardiorespiratory arrest, deep vein thrombosis secondary to pulmonary embolism, and multiple physical injuries secondary to blunt trauma.

"We do not tolerate any misdeeds or physical abuse in our rank. We shall remain stringent in dealing with this matter. We fully respect and value the rights of our people, those who would do the contrary may face both administrative and criminal cases," the PRO-5 said.

Calubaquib said once it has been proven that there were irregularities that happened, PRO5 ensures that those who are culpable for the incident shall be dealt with accordingly.

"PRO5 expresses its earnest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family. Rest assured that the Philippine National Police will act swiftly to serve justice to the victim," she said. (PNA)
