ZAMBOANGA CITY – The 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company (2ZCMFC) seized Friday a shipment of bomb-making components here.

Col. Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao (APC-WM), said the shipment of bomb-making components consisting of 13 sacks of ammonium nitrate was intercepted on the coast of Sitio Layag-Layag, Barangay Talon-Talon here.

Ammonium nitrate, aside from being predominantly used as fertilizer, can also be converted as a component of explosive mixtures.

Verceles said 2ZCMFC personnel were on seaborne patrol when they spotted a motorboat sailing to the shore of Barangay Talon-Talon.

“While approaching the motorboat, the unidentified individuals jumped into the sea and swam in the direction of the shoreline of Sitio Layag-Layag,” the 2ZCMFC said in a report to the APC-WM.

“Upon inspecting the motorboat, the troops found 13 sacks of ammonium nitrate,” the 2ZCMFC report added.

The motorboat and the ammonium nitrate were taken to the 2ZCMFC headquarters for documentation and proper turn-over to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit-9 for disposal. (PNA)
