BAGUIO CITY – A total of 169 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases were recorded in the Cordillera region on Friday, the highest single-day record in months.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH) – Cordillera’s Covid-19-tracker released on Friday evening, Baguio City logged the most number of cases with 91, with two deaths on the same day.

Baguio now has 307 active cases.

Mountain Province has 20 new cases; Benguet and Ifugao have 19 each; Kalinga, 16; Apayao, 3; and Abra, 1.

The new cases raised the number of active Covid-19 cases in the region to 621, up from only 207 two weeks ago on July 15.

The DOH tracker also showed an 18.32 percent health care utilization rate for non-intensive care units (ICU) and a 16 percent utilization rate for 150 ICU beds.

Of the 160 cases confined in the hospitals, 15 have been classified as severe and critical.

Dr. Amelita Pangikinan, DOH-Cordillera assistant director and spokesperson, said, "We are still in a pandemic. We still have Covid-19 in our midst so let us not lower our guards and always observe the minimum public health and safety protocols."

"Mask pa rin ng maayos (wear your facemasks properly)," she added. (PNA)
