ZAMBOANGA CITY – Three alleged notorious drug traders were killed while three others were captured after a 20-minute firefight on a remote island in Tandubas, Tawi-Tawi province, according to the police on Tuesday.

The Tandubas police said the clash ensued as a group of heavily armed drug traders opened fire when police officers, backed by the Tawi-Tawi Provincial Mobile Force Company, raided Kalang Island in Barangay Kakoong on Sunday.

“Fortunately, no one among the policemen was killed or injured during the clash as the suspects missed their targets,” the Tandubas police said.

The slain suspects were identified as Nurhamin Madnur, 43; Moh'd Al Sangogot, 27; and a certain Billy.

Captured were Alhamin Sangogot, 18; Alman Ladjabassal, 18; and Adin Nur, 31.

Police recovered three M14 rifles, an M203 rifle, a KG9 automatic submachine gun, two rifle grenades, assorted ammunition, a sniper scope, and other gun parts.

Authorities also recovered 52.91 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP359,788, eight rolls of aluminum foils, and PHP2,780 cash.

Brigadier Gen. Arthur Cabalona, police director of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said their anti-criminality campaign will continue with a strong emphasis on curbing illegal drugs. (PNA)
