ILOILO CITY – The Western Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC 6) is eyeing a three-dimensional (3D) map of the region for easier project planning, identification, monitoring and evaluation.

RDC-6, through the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) here, has entered into an agreement with the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) whose College of Engineering and Architecture will be responsible for the development of the map.

A memorandum of agreement was formalized on July 28, 2022 with ISAT-U President Dr. Raul Muyong and RDC 6 Vice-Chairperson NEDA 6 OIC-Regional Director Arecio A. Casing Jr. as signatories for the document.

“We will be coming up with a topographic and land cover map,” said Muyong in a phone interview on Thursday.

The 3D map project has a height of eight feet and six feet wide and will rise about three feet from the ground for better viewing and manipulation. It will be installed at the lobby of the NEDA regional office in Fort San Pedro Road, City Proper.

“The 3D map will be a vital tool in regional and local planning, project development and project monitoring and evaluation. Once completed, it will be installed in the lobby of the NEDA-VI office,” Muyong added.

The university president said that the project would strengthen the foundation in the areas of knowledge management, data science, innovation, digital transformation and assist in fast-tracking needed reforms and concerns.

“This is just a part of our collaborative effort with the national government agency,” he added.

The project is expected to be completed by December this year.

Muyong said that they looked forward to starting with the development once classes start on Aug. 15 since faculty members and selected students of the College of Engineering and Architecture would take part in the project. (PNA)
