ZAMBOANGA CITY – The African swine fever (ASF) infection has spread to all seven veterinary districts here despite efforts to contain the hog disease.

The city’s seven veterinary districts include Ayala, Culianan, Curuan, Manicahan, San Roque, Tumaga, and Vitali.

Data released by the city government Friday showed that ASF infections continued to rise with 22 of the 98 barangays now affected.

Total hog mortality has reached 2,782 with Vitali district logging the highest at 955.

Data showed that the infection has affected 770 hog raisers with Tumaga district logging the highest at 297.

Dr. Arcadio Cavan of the Office of the City Veterinarian said they continue to put up quarantine checkpoints in different parts of the city to contain ASF infections.

Cavan said they also intensified the surveillance in areas with reported cases so proper action can be undertaken. (PNA)
