174 fire-hit families in Davao get gov't aid

DAVAO CITY—At least 174 families affected by the recent fire in Dumalag Uno, Matina Aplaya here received assistance from the government Friday.

Rodrigo Duterte II, representing the Office of Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, led the distribution of lunch packs, grocery items, and clothing to the affected families.

Duterte said they will also provide cash assistance to the victims and that they are only waiting for the final list of beneficiaries from the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

“We thanked the friends of Congressman Pulong for the donated clothes and underwear to the victims. The donation was through his Pulong-pulong ni Pulong program,” Duterte said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao (BFP-Davao) said at least 120 houses were damaged by the August 3 fire. It estimated the damage on properties at PHP2.4 million.

Editha Suaybaguio, 71, said her house was totally damaged and she failed to save any of their possessions.

“We badly need help, and they immediately helped us,” she said, referring to the local government and Duterte's congressional office. (PNA)
