BUTUAN CITY – At least 400 residents from two barangays of Sta. Josefa, Agusan del Sur province, received on Friday payments under the cash-for-work program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13).

In a statement, DSWD-13 said a total of PHP1,280,000 in cash were released during the distribution activity held at the Sta. Josefa municipal hall.

Each of the 400 residents from Barangays Awao and Sayon has rendered 10 days of work with a corresponding PHP320 daily pay.

“For 10 days, the residents took part in the cash-for-work in an endemic tree growing project of the province,” the DSWD-13 said.

It added that the cash-for-work payment is under the Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaption and Mitigation Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM DRR) of the agency, which aims to transform communities into disaster-resilient areas.

The RRP-CCAM DRR implements projects based on the climate change plans of the local government units, including the provision of temporary employment through cash-for-work for 10 days.

Aside from Sta. Josefa, the DSWD-13 said cash-for-work payments were also conducted Friday in the towns of San Francisco in Surigao del Norte, and in Carmen in Surigao del Sur. (PNA)
