ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two Basilan Electric Cooperative (Baselco) personnel were killed in a broad daylight shooting Tuesday in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.

Lt. Col. Junpikar Sitin, Isabela City police chief, said Baseco linemen Alvin Pangilinan, 53, and Reymond Singson, 35, were gunned down around 11:25 a.m. at Salain Drive, Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City.

Pangilinan, who was hit in the head died instantly, while Singson, who sustained two gunshot wounds, died minutes later while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Isabela City.

Sitin said the victims were conducting troubleshooting due to loss of power in the area when shot by a gunman, who fled towards the west direction from the crime scene.

He said police strongly believed that the motive of the incident is work-related.

Following the incident, Baselco has suspended its complaint, reconnection, and disconnection services. (PNA)
