MSMEs in Pangasinan get P9.8-M aid from DOST

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – At least 14 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Pangasinan have received a total of PHP9.8 million worth of assistance from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to improve their operations and processes and thereby boost  productivity and competitiveness. 
 
In a statement issued on Monday, DOST staff member Bernalyn Martinez said the support was provided under the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
 
“SETUP is one of the flagship programs of the DOST, a nationwide strategy to encourage and assist MSMEs,” she said.
 
Martinez said SETUP supports the MSMEs by providing seed funds for technology acquisition, needed equipment and its upgrading, technical training and consultancy services, packaging and label design, and support for the establishment of product standards and testing. 
 
The beneficiaries under the metals and fabrication are Tarectecan Iron Works from Burgos town which received PHP274,000, RFG General Merchandise of San Carlos City with PHP350,000, RDG Machine Shop of Dagupan City with PHP730,000, and Brod Head Trading of San Carlos City which got PHP452,000.
 
Under the food processing industry is Jarold’s Food Products from Dagupan City with PHP50,000; Gerrilaide Farm of Bolinao received PHP2 million, DL Hatchery and Balut Industry from San Jacinto town got PHP1.1 million, Trixz Mushroom Products Trading of Binalonan got PHP182,000, JPD Poultry Farm from Umingan with PHP1.4 million, and Daniella Merz Rice Mill of Sual town which received PHP1.1 million under the agriculture sector.
 
Under the furniture, gifts, decors, and fashion accessories are Bandulf Industries of San Carlos City which received PHP450,000; Yamban Enterprise from Urdaneta City with PHP590,000; Bartolome Fine Furniture of Lingayen with PHP830,000, and Entrepreneurs Toward Rural Economic Progress Multi-Purpose Cooperative from Alaminos City with PHP220,000. 
 
“The DOST 1 will continue to provide interventions to the 2022 approved projects through technical assistance and consultancy services, capability building such as seminars and training, and marketing support through oneSTore (online shop),” she said.
 
Martinez also encouraged other MSMEs to visit DOST offices in their respective provinces and inquire about the project intended for them. (PNA)
