MANILA – Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles on Thursday gave an update on her health condition, four days after announcing she has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a statement, Cruz-Angeles said she was merely “feeling tired” as she was still doing her job as Press Secretary while in isolation.

“I’m just feeling tired though. Nothing more than that, lalo na galing ako sa (especially since I was at the) Cabinet meeting, which I attended virtually,” she said.

Cruz-Angeles made the clarification after saying during a virtual presser that she could not entertain more queries from Palace reporters because she felt like she was developing symptoms of Covid-19.

“Pasensya na po medyo hindi kaya nang matagalan ngayong araw na ito kasi medyo malapit na akong magkaroon ng sintomas doon sa Covid (I apologize because I could no longer accommodate any more questions today because I feel like I’m about to develop Covid-19 symptoms),” she said.

Cruz-Angeles did not give further details about her health condition during the online press briefing.

Sought for clarification, she said she might experience symptoms because it has been four days since she contracted the coronavirus.

“I meant, nararamdaman ko baka mag-erupt ‘yung symptoms (today). Sabi ni doc kasi third or fourth day lumalabas ang symptoms (I feel like the symptoms might erupt today. My doctor said I could exhibit symptoms on the third or fourth day [of getting infected with Covid-19]),” she said.

Cruz-Angeles heads the Office of the Press Secretary, which supervises the operations of state-run television stations PTV-4 and IBC-13, radio station Radyo Pilipinas, and news wire agency Philippine News Agency.

In a video posted on her official Facebook page on Monday, Cruz-Angeles said the result of the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test she had on Sunday turned out positive.

On her official Facebook page, Cruz-Angeles enjoined Filipinos to get booster shots against Covid-19, citing its effectiveness in fighting the coronavirus and its variants.

Mahalaga ang pagpapabakuna ng booster shot dahil binabalik nito ang proteksyon na humina o nawala (It is important to receive booster shots to regain protection [against Covid-19] after it wanes),” she said.

Cruz-Angeles also advised her fellow countrymen not to be complacent, considering that Covid-19 remains a threat to public health. (PNA)
