MAKILALA, North Cotabato – Authorities are on a manhunt against a detainee who escaped from his guard at the municipal police station here, an official said Friday.

Lt. Col. Jojet Nicolas, municipal police chief, identified the escapee as Bryan Louie Jayson Sanoy, who is facing rape and carnapping charges at a Davao City court.

Sanoy was detained at the Makilala police custodial facility since July 8 this year following his arrest.

He escaped his guard on Thursday after he and 11 others were allowed brief exercises at the police compound.

“This usual activity every morning is being done to maintain the good physical condition of the detainees while strict supervision is implemented,” Nicolas said.

The jailer only noticed the missing inmate during the roll call of the detainees following their morning cardiovascular exercises.

“We checked the vicinity of the Sanoy family residence and coordinated with his close friends, but our efforts turned out negative,” Nicolas said.

He said the escapee possibly used the door in the kitchen located in their old building facility with no closed-circuit security camera installed, and is adjacent to the access road.

Nicolas said an administrative case is also being prepared against the jailer for neglect of duty. (PNA)
