CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Classes in some parts of Central Luzon were suspended on Tuesday due to continuous rains brought by severe Tropical Storm (TS) Florita.

In Aurora Province, Governor Christian Noveras suspended classes at all levels, both in public and private.

In Bataan, Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III likewise ordered the suspension of classes from pre-elementary to the high school level, both public and private, in 11 towns and one city of the province.

In Nueva Ecija, classes in the pre-elementary level, both in public and private, were suspended.

Likewise, classes at all levels, both in public and private schools in highly-urbanized cities of Olongapo and Angeles were suspended.

Localized suspension of classes, on the other hand, was declared in the provinces of Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Zambales.

In Bulacan, afternoon classes at all levels, both in public and private schools, were canceled in Malolos City until Wednesday.

The local government unit of Hagonoy also suspended classes at all levels due to bad weather and high tide.

In Pampanga, classes in all levels, both in public and private schools in the towns of Mexico, Minalin, Apalit, Arayat, Guagua, Masantol, Sto. Tomas, San Simon, Sta. Ana, Sta. Rita and Mabalacat City were also canceled.

Afternoon classes on all levels, both in public and private, were likewise suspended in the City of San Fernando and the towns of Magalang and San Luis.

In Tarlac, classes at all levels, both public and private, were suspended in the towns of Paniqui, Bamban, Capas, and Ramos.

In the towns of Pura and San Clemente, only classes in pre-elementary to high school levels were suspended and only pre-elementary levels in the towns of Anao, San Jose, and Concepcion.

In Zambales, classes at all levels, both in public and private schools, were canceled in the towns of Iba, Subic, Sta Cruz, and San Felipe.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast heavy to intense and at times torrential rains over Zambales, and Bataan.

Moderate to heavy and at times intense rains were forecast over the northern portion of Aurora, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bulacan while the rest of Central Luzon might experience light to moderate and at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the first day of classes in Central Luzon was orderly and peaceful, with no single crime incident reported victimizing students, the Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3) said.

Brig. Gen. Cesar R. Pasiwen, PRO-3 regional director, said on Tuesday this could be attributed to the tight implementation of “Ligtas Balik-Eskwela 2022” which aims to ensure the safety and security of students, especially within the school premises.

“We have deployed almost 2,000 personnel for the opening of classes and I commend them for their assiduousness in performing their duties. Indeed, it paid off with no single crime incident reported. I would also thank the public for their cooperation and support to us,” Pasiwen said in a statement.

He said the police personnel were deployed in the different provinces in the region to ensure visibility in schools, colleges, universities, and nearby areas.

Pasiwen also directed all field officers to personally visit the different schools and coordinate with officials in order to prevent crimes against students such as hold-ups, pick-pocketing, snatching, drug pushing, and even kidnapping.

Likewise, he said police assistance desks were established in every school as early as Aug. 19 to preempt and respond to any eventuality.

“Our police assistance desks and motorists assistance centers are still in place to ensure maximum police presence,” he added. (PNA)
