CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – About 3,500 beneficiaries in Northern Mindanao will be getting education assistance during the second payout from the regional social welfare office, an official said Thursday.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 10 (Northern Mindanao) Director Ramel Jamen said the payout would continue on August 27, with the agency opting to identify the beneficiaries based on online and offline registrations to streamline the distribution.

"It is also a fact that during the first Saturday (of distribution on August 20), we met challenges, and with that, we reconvened with the staff and came up with recommendations," Jamen said.

He said their strategy aims to "improve and enhance" the system of payout in the next Saturdays to come.

Based on the DSWD scheme, online registration can be accessed via the agency’s official page.

For offline registration, potential beneficiaries may proceed to the local social welfare centers in their respective local government units or city and municipal action teams.

Potential beneficiaries are subject to validation and background checks on whether they would qualify or not.

Once registered, applicants need to wait for confirmation through a text message.

In the upcoming distribution, each province has designated payout venues where beneficiaries could claim the cash grant.

In Misamis Oriental province, the venue will be in Gingoog City, and this city is for its residents here.

In an interview, Mayor Rolando Uy said he is willing to assist the DSWD-10 on the task as soon as officials get in touch with his office.

"We are still waiting for (DSWD) officials to meet with us, so everything will be properly coordinated," he said.

During the August 20 distribution, Uy said he was aware of the crowd lining up at the DSWD-10 office in uptown Barangay Carmen and took note of reports about some goers who lost consciousness.

Maj. Evans Viñas, the spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, said DSWD officials have yet to formally communicate with their office so that the number of police personnel for deployment could be determined. (PNA)
