ILOILO CITY – Iloilo City is on its way to continued progress as it gives the "right support for education and enabling business environment," Vice President Sara Z. Duterte said Thursday evening.

Duterte paid a visit here as she joined the city government in honoring its top taxpayers in a ceremony held at the Iloilo Convention Center.

She added that the influx of investments here has allowed “industries to grow and become diverse,” resulting in the development of more skilled human resources and a more progressive economy.

“Let us continue to provide greater options for growth and development of various industries. This is the only way to keep local government self-reliant and local economies stronger, resilient, and adaptive to future economic threats of wide-scale impacts,” Duterte said.

Iloilo City Jerry P. Treñas, in his message, said with the continued support of the business sector, the city was able to get a surplus of almost PHP500 million amid the health pandemic.

“LGUs have also doubled their efforts to ensure that response plans are calibrated to tailor-fit given situation for the economy to bounce back. Tonight, representatives from different sector gathered here having a common goal and shared commitment of rising to the challenges and thriving amidst the continuing threat of the pandemic,” Treñas added.

The city recognized 40 of its top real individual and corporate property taxpayers.

The recognition of top taxpayers was among the activities in line with the celebration of Iloilo City’s 85th Charter Day. (PNA)
