CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Fighting crime and terrorism are the new battles for the modern heroes of this country, the head of the Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) said Monday during the commemoration of the National Heroes Day here.

"We remain on the battlefield against crime, illegal drugs, corruption, and terrorism even as we continue our tireless pursuit of cleansing our backyard of members unfit to be called the nation’s protectors and public servants," said Brig. Gen. Lawrence Coop, PRO-10 director, during their flag-raising ceremony.

Coop emphasized that the police force should "not only commemorates the glorious past, but we also pay respect, with the highest esteem, to our many modern-day heroes.”

A wreath-laying ceremony was held in this city at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal, in recognition of the Filipino heroes who struggled for the nation's freedom, including those who lost their lives in pursuit of freedom.

2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez said modern heroes include the health front-liners "who battle with the lingering effects of the pandemic.”

Likewise, Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia said the public should also remember the good services provided by civil servants and ordinary citizens who helped in nation-building.

"We hope we can find inspiration from their sincere and selfless service to all Filipinos," he said in the vernacular. (PNA)
