Daily average of Covid-19 cases down 19%

MANILA – The daily average of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases went down by 19 percent for the period Aug. 22 to 28, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.

From 3,412 per day recorded from Aug. 15 to 21, the number decreased to 2,752 daily in the recent week.

The latest case bulletin showed there were 19,262 new cases and 316 verified deaths.

Of the additional deaths, the DOH said 94 occurred from Aug. 15 to 28.

In the same period, 110 cases were added to the tally of severe and critical infections, which went down to 807 from the previous week’s 811.

Only 24.9 percent or 635 out of the 2,551 intensive care unit (ICU) beds are in use, while 28.1 percent or 5,986 of 21,287 non-ICU beds are utilized.

To date, about 72,476,610 or 92.80 percent of the country’s target population (78,100,578) are vaccinated against Covid-19, including 78.01 percent of 8,721,357 senior citizens.

As of Aug. 28, a total of 17,843,348 have received booster shots out of the fully vaccinated population. (PNA)
