BAGUIO CITY – Active cases of the coronavirus disease (2019) have gone down in the city but the city government urged the public to remain vigilant as the cases could go back up again due to face-to-face school classes.

“We are an educational center, we have already received most of our previous students and the new ones back but we encourage the public, especially the students, to take care of themselves by following the safety protocols,” chief Public information officer Aileen Refuerzo said in a message on Monday.

The city’s Covid-19 case monitoring on Monday showed that while 15 new cases have been recorded, 34 patients have recovered, bringing down the number of active cases to 208.

The number was lower than a week ago, on August 23, when 293 active cases were logged, including 35 new cases at the time. A week before that, on August 16, the city had 324 active cases with the addition of 70 new cases that day.

A total of 257 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and antigen tests were done on Monday.

The healthcare utilization rate is at 14.78 percent with 56 of the 379 Covid-19 beds in use. Of the number, seven of the 44 intensive care unit beds and 49 of the 335 non-ICU beds are occupied.

During the close-door management conference meeting, Mayor Benjamin Magalong said while face-to-face classes pose a risk of infection among students, Covid-19 should not disrupt in-person schooling.

According to the Baguio City Health Office, the city is under a low-risk category in terms of infections.

Health Services Office records showed the city’s positivity rate for the past two weeks at 15.33 percent while the weekly infection rate is at 0.84. (PNA)
