COTABATO CITY – Police arrested Tuesday a man who allegedly hacked to death his father-in-law and his godfather for still unknown reasons in the North Cotabato town of Alamada.

Major Bryan Espinoza, Alamada town police chief, identified the suspect as Richel Nikor, who hacked his victims with a machete on Monday afternoon after accusing them of practicing "witchcraft."

The victims are identified as Rolando Salcedo, 56, and Felix Arigola, 70, both of Barangay Barangiran, Alamada.

Nikor is Salcedo’s son-in-law, while Arigola stood as godfather during the suspect’s wedding several years ago.

Initial police reports indicated that Salcedo and the suspect had been at odds over the latter’s drinking habit and for being jobless.

Espinoza said he also spoke to the suspect, who has shown some mental issues.

“We are still trying to determine if he was indeed mentally disturbed,” Espinoza said.

Nikor is now detained at the Alamada police station, awaiting murder charges before the prosecutor’s office. (PNA)
