BAGUIO CITY – Police officers in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), mostly assigned in Abra, have received almost PHP7.3 million in financial assistance from fellow officers in other regions.

Capt. Marnie Abellanida, Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCor), told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that 413 PNP personnel affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake last July 27 have received cash assistance.

The aid came from the PHP7,296,227 cash donations pooled by police regional offices in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Abellanida said the houses of six police officers in Abra were totally damaged, 29 of their houses sustained major damage, and 378 incurred minor damage.

Owners of the totally damaged houses received PHP100,000 each; those with major damage received PHP50,000 each; while those with minor damage got PHP13,613 each.

The Bangued municipal police also received PHP100,000 so it could be temporarily moved to the provincial library after the station was rendered unsafe by engineers.

“They need to be assured that their families are safe because they will not always be home to take care of their loved ones. They continue to report for work to help the government implement the humanitarian activities of the different agencies,” Abellanida said.

He added that amid the challenges posed by calamities, police officers are mandated to continue performing their duty to maintain peace and order.

“We, the men and women of the Police Regional Office Cordillera, would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the regional offices and units of the Philippine National Police who have voluntarily donated cash and in-kind to your brothers and sisters in service here in PROCor," he said. (PNA)
