LEGAZPI CITY – A total of 5,871 more students in the Bicol Region received educational cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) over the weekend.

In an advisory on Tuesday, the agency said it distributed some PHP18.2 million worth of cash aid under the agency’s Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) during the second payout last Saturday.

During the first payout on Aug. 20, some 5,900 students received a total of PHP18.2-million financial assistance from the DSWD.

DSWD-Bicol distributed PHP3.3 million to 1,009 students in Albay province; Sorsogon – PHP3.8 million to 1,169 students; Masbate – PHP1.1 million to 414 students; Catanduanes – PHP1.5 million to 452 students; Camarines Sur – PHP4.5 million to 1,591 clients; and Camarines Norte – PHP3.7 million to 1,236 students.

Each pupil in the elementary level received PHP1,000; those in junior high school, PHP2,000; those in senior high school, PHP3,000; and PHP4,000 for those in college/vocational school.

DSWD-Bicol, however, temporarily suspended last week the acceptance of walk-in and email applications for educational assistance to give way for a review of all the names on the list so that possible duplications could be removed.

The DSWD advised those who submitted applications "to wait for the announcement that will be posted on the DSWD Facebook page".

"Sa kasalukuyan ay mayroong 200,543 requests na natanggap ang DSWD Field Office V. Magsasagawa ang ahensya ng cleanlisting upang masiguro na walang duplikasyon ng mga requests (As of today, 200,543 requests were already received by DSWD Field Office V. We will conduct "clean listing" to ensure that there is no duplication of requests)," the advisory read. (PNA)
