MANILA – The Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) has been adjudged as Metro Manila’s best city jail by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-National Capital Region (BJMP-NCR).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mayor Joy Belmonte lauded the institution that received the recognition for the first time.

This is proof that they have effectively implemented their duty to be a temporary home for our countrymen who are bouncing back from the cases they are facing),” Belmonte said.

The Quezon City Jail Ligtas Covid Center and Quarantine Facility was also recognized as the Best Quarantine Facility in NCR.

The BJMP-NCR also gave a special award to the Quezon City government for its continuous support to the institution throughout the years, and for providing aid for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

Jail Superintendent Michelle Ng Bonto of the QCJMD thanked Belmonte for providing them with capability developments, programs, and projects for the PDLs as well as the jail personnel.

Early this year, Belmonte turned over the newly-built QC Male Dormitory in Barangay Bagong Silangan, a 2.4-hectare land bought by the city government.

Belmonte said the facility is compliant with United Nations standards and is expected to decongest the current city jail along Edsa. (PNA)
