MANILA – The Diocese of Bayombong in Nueva Vizcaya on Wednesday asked the faithful to pray for Bishop Jose Elmer Mangalinao who will undergo major surgery this weekend.

Fr. Roberto Oliveros Jr., diocese chancellor, said the 62-year-old bishop was rushed to a hospital due to difficulty in breathing.

“At present, our bishop is in stable condition but was advised to undergo coronary artery heart bypass this coming weekend. We ask all our beloved priests, religious, and faithful to offer your masses, Holy Hours, and recitation of the Holy Rosary for the successful operation and fast recovery of our bishop,” Oliveros said.

Mangalinao has been the head of the Bayombong diocese since 2018.

“Let us continue to entrust Bishop Jose Elmer and ourselves to the maternal protection of our Mother Mary and the paternal love of St. Joseph,” Oliveros said.

The bishop is also the chairperson of the Episcopal Commission on Catechesis and Catholic Education of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines. (PNA)
