SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The cadaver of a missing fisherman was found in an advanced stage of decomposition in the municipality of Libertad in Antique province.

Broderick Train, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO), said the fatality found lying on the shorelines of Barangay Banawon on Sunday morning was identified by relatives as Dionisio Bacaoco, 59, a resident of Barangay Mapatag in Hamtic town.

“Bacaoco was reported missing by his family on August 23 and immediately, a search and rescue operation was conducted,” Train said in an interview on Monday.

The incident was disseminated by the Hamtic municipal DRRMO, Philippine Coast Guard, and local police.

Train said that a fisherman, also a resident of Barangay Mapatag, found Bacaoco’s boat within the vicinity of the seawaters in their village.

He added that rough sea conditions due to the southwest monsoon caused by Tropical Storm Florita could have caused the fishing boat to capsize.

“The Coast Guard Station Antique issued a sea travel advisory canceling trips in Caluya,, Libertad and Culasi (towns) on August 23,” he said.

Train reminded local fishermen to always adhere to Coast Guard Station advisories to avoid untoward incidents. (PNA)
