QC cops nab 18K violators in weeklong anti-crime ops

MANILA – The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Monday announced the arrest of a total of 17,946 violators in its aggressive operations against all forms of criminality.

In a statement, QCPD director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said during the period Aug. 29 to Sept. 4, a total of 17,761 violators of city ordinances were recorded wherein 508 were accosted for smoking in public places; 39 for roaming half-naked in public places; 2,667 for not wearing face mask; 9,518 for the improper wearing of face mask; 524 for jaywalking; 4,211 for traffic violations; 151 for illegal vendor and 143 for specific ordinances wherein 16,312 were warned while 1,449 were fined.

A total of 61 wanted persons were also arrested -- 23 of whom were listed as Most Wanted Persons.

In the same period, 32 drug operations were conducted which resulted in the arrest of 72 drug personalities and confiscation of PHP999,124 worth of shabu and PHP11,400 worth of marijuana.

In the campaign against anti-illegal gambling, a total of 14 operations were conducted which resulted in the arrest of 51 gamblers and confiscation of PHP8,918 bet money.

Torre commended his personnel for maintaining good police work even in routine patrols and for their vigilance in keeping the streets safe from criminals.

Mayor Joy Belmonte also lauded the QCPD for its untiring efforts in ensuring peace and order in the city.
