DAGUPAN CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Pangasinan provincial office has deactivated over 30,000 regular voters in the province based on its latest election registration board hearing.
In a phone interview on Monday, provincial election supervisor, lawyer Marino Salas, said the deactivated voters were either dead, transferred, or have failed to vote in the elections twice.
“They just have to wait for the opening of regular voters’ registration to activate their names,” he said.
Salas said the residents may go to their respective Comelec offices in their localities to verify their registration.
“We accommodate inquiries and verifications in our offices,” he added.
However, Salas said there were over 60,000 new voters mostly between 15 to 17 years old based on the latest registration held last July.
“We have almost 2.1 million registered voters in the province. Dagupan City, San Carlos City, Malasiqui, and Bayambang towns have the highest number of voters,” he said.
Salas said they are already consolidating the list of voters following the conclusion of the election registration board hearing.
“We are now assigning precincts of registered voters. Identify those who will be voting in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections and the regular voters,” he added.
The SK voters will have two ballots –one for the SK and the other one for the barangay positions.
“As far as Comelec is concerned, the elections will push through because that is mandated in the law unless the Congress will pass a law for the postponement of the elections,” Salas said.
The SK and barangay elections are set for Dec. 5 this year.
The filing of the certificate of candidacy is set on Oct. 6 to 13. (PNA)
