ROSARIO, La Union — A slope protection structure in Manila North Road in Barangay Benteng this town has been helpful in preventing landslides and thus protecting motorists.

In a virtual interview on Wednesday, Department of Public Works and Highways Ilocos Region (DPWH-1) information officer Esperanza Tinaza said the project was started on Feb. 24 and completed on June 7.

“The slope protection works included soil nailing, installation of erosion control mats, and other protection works,” she said.

The project implementation was funded with PHP13.5 million from the General Appropriations Act.

DPWH second district engineering officer head, Engr. Gil Lorenzo, said the completed slope protection along the road spans 84 meters for four stations.

“It is a big help in reducing the possibility of a landslide and ensures safer travel for motorists,” he said.

Jonard Catbagan, a resident of Rosario town, said he was thankful for the project.

“Even with the typhoons or rainy season, it is not dangerous to pass by the road,” he said. (PNA)
