PH detects 425 new cases of Omicron BA.5 subvariant

MANILA – The country has detected 425 more cases of the Omicron BA.5 subvariant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday.

In a presentation, the DOH said five of the total cases are from Central Luzon, 214 from Western Visayas, seven from Central Visayas, two from Northern Mindanao, 146 from Davao Region, 21 from Soccsksargen, 19 from Calabarzon, one from Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, one from Caraga, and nine from the National Capital Region.

There were also 10 additional BA.4 cases -- one from Northern Mindanao, seven from Davao Region, and two from Soccsksargen.

Meanwhile, one additional BA.2.75 case was recorded in Davao Region.

All the reported cases are based on the latest genome sequencing results from Sept. 5 to 7. (PNA)
