MANILA – The positivity rate or the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 in Rizal province increased to 17.4 percent as of Sept. 10 but its average daily attack rate remained low at 3.73, the OCTA Research Group said on Monday.

Over Twitter, OCTA Research Group fellow Dr. Guido David said the figure is a 5.4-point increase from 12 percent as of Sept. 3.

"The increase in positivity rate indicates that the spike is not due to backlog," he said.

In epidemiology, the attack rate is the percentage of an at-risk population that contracts a disease during a specified time interval.

As of Sept. 9, Rizal reported 228 new Covid-19 cases.

Guido said the number was higher than its previous peak of 203 cases during the current wave.

Rizal's seven-day average of new Covid-19 cases had a one-week growth rate of 47 percent -- from 84 (Aug. 29 to Sept. 4) to 124 (Sept. 5 to 11).

Its reproduction number increased from 0.9 (Sept. 1) to 1.25 as of Sept.8.

"The healthcare utilization rate for Covid-19 was moderate at 50.8 percent while the intensive care unit occupancy was low at 5 percent," Guido said. (PNA)
