MANILA – Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte on Monday urged parents to plan well their family to make sure their children will get proper support and education.

“Hinikayat din natin ang mga magulang na planuhing mabuti ang kanilang pamilya upang mapaniguro na mabibigay nila ang mga kinakailangang suporta sa kanilang mga anak lalo na ang pagpapatapos sa pag-aaral (We also urged parents to carefully plan their family to ensure they will be able to provide the needed support of their kids, especially in their studies),” the Office of the Vice President (OVP) said in its post.

Duterte made the statement a day after she visited Siquijor where she personally distributed school kits under the OVP's PagbaBAGo campaign.

Siquijor was the fifth province to receive aid under the PagbaBAGo campaign, which has already provided around 2,400 kits to learners and 5,000 food packs to parents.

Duterte also joined the people of Siquijor in the celebration of the province’s 50th founding anniversary on Sunday.

During her speech, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte highly regarded Siquijor’s huge economic potential through tourism, alongside the efficient efforts of the local government units.

“As the economy reopens, it is also high time to string together these potentials and bring them to the frontier of the progress of the island that is pulsing with the dynamism of its people. Tourism remains one of your strengths. I hope tourism will create waves and waves of growth post-pandemic — benefiting everyone on the island,” she said.

She noted that it is of great value for locals to trust their local authorities, and vice versa.

“Both the local government and the people should trust each other and together create a better life on the island… With this important task and the government's continued initiatives, no Siquijodnon will be left behind,” she added.

Duterte said she is confident the province will continue to grow economically and be a “premium investment destination” in the Visayas. (PNA)
