DAVAO CITY -- Some PHP69 million have been disbursed for the educational payout in Davao Region as of September 12, the region’s Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-11) said Tuesday.

DSWD-11 data showed that the amount was given to 29,082 students in various grade levels in the region.

The aid is under the DSWD's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program, which has been extended to cover students in crisis or emergencies.

Romeo Bernal, 32, a jeepney driver here said the PHP2,000 educational assistance he received will go to the school needs of his Grade 2 and Grade 6 children.

"My income was affected because of the skyrocketing price of gasoline. This will help," he said in vernacular.

For Charlene Barrete, a college student, the assistance she got from the government will ease the financial burden of her mom who is a solo parent.

Barrete thanked the DSWD for the PHP4,000 cash aid which will be used to buy her uniform.

"I felt that there is a government to help us in our needs," she said. (PNA)
