ZAMBOANGA CITY – The number of barangays (villages) here affected by the African swine fever (ASF) has increased to 31, after two new areas were added to the list.
Dr. Mario Arriola, Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVet) chief, said Tuesday these affected barangays are spread out in the seven veterinary districts of the city.
Hog mortalities also increased to 4,079, with 49 new mortalities recorded, he said. The district of Vitali has the highest mortalities with 1,547.
“We continue the conduct of border control and implementation of quarantine checkpoints to contain the spread of ASF,” Arriola said.
He said the number of depopulated hogs also climbed to 917 with 14 additional swine culled.
At least 992 raisers in the city have been affected by the ASF.
The public is encouraged to immediately report to OCVet the presence of sick hogs and other animals in their community. (PNA)
